By developing and reconstructing the elements of the existing water supply and drainage system, as well as by establishing new water replacement routes, the achievement of good status and good ecological status, the enhancement of biodiversity and the elimination of degraded states are the objectives to be achieved. Restoring the natural flow direction of water systems and ensuring adequate quality and quantity of water restocking also serves to achieve good water status. By developing and reconstructing the drainage system and creating storage conditions, the inland waterway risk can be reduced, which is the objective of the GTC. Water restocking of good water quality objectives can only be achieved effectively and efficiently in rehabilitated water spaces. The protection of groundwater resources as defined in the VGT can be achieved by using surface water resources based on the water resources of the rivers. The objectives of the improvements are in line with the needs described above and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of KEHOP Priority Axis 1. The project’s objectives and expected results are clearly linked to the most important EU directives, such as the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), the Floods Directive (2007/60/EC). It is also linked to the objectives of domestic strategies such as Jenő Kvassay’s (second) National Climate Change Strategy (2014-2025, Outlook 2050), National Environment Programme, National Rural Strategy, National Sustainable Development Strategy, given that the implementation of the project improves adaptation to extreme hydrological and waterfall situations.
