Technical assistance for the preparation of the project “Modernisation of the railway line Sofia-Pernik-Radomir-Gyushevo-frontier with the Republic of Macedonia”

This project is for technical assistance for the preparation of a project for the railway line Sofia — Pernik — Radomir — Gyueshevo — border with the Republic of Macedonia, which is part of the core network and partly falls along the Orient/East Med Corridor corridor. The investment project “Modernisation of the railway line Sofia — Pernik-Radomir-Gyueshevo-frontier with the Republic of Macedonia” provides for the construction of a railway highway to serve the population, domestic and international freight traffic. The project will ensure interoperability of infrastructure, equipment, management systems, operation and safety, as well as connectivity with European rail networks through the implementation of uniform standards. The modernisation of the railway line Sofia — Pernik — Radomir — Gyueshevo-frontier with the Republic of Macedonia will provide the necessary capacity, will allow the provision of railway services in accordance with the requirements of the Trans-European Transport Network and will allow attracting more international freight and the development of passenger transport on the railway. The railway line Sofia — Pernik — Radomir — Gyueshevo — border with the Republic of Macedonia has a total length of 139 km as follows:- railway section Sofia — Pernik — Radomir — Radomir — approximately 48.6 km. The Sofia — Dragichevo — Pernik — Radomir section has a total length of about 48.6 km, a single-road railway line (only in the sections Sofia-Zaharna Factory and Batanovtsi — Radomir is double), with a normal railway track gauge of 1 435 mm, electrified. The design speed ranges from 70 to 100 km/h, with some limitations from 40 to 75 km/h and maximum permissible load D4. In the section there are 12 bridges with a total length of 251 m and 6 level crossings.
