BIOTECHNOLOGICAL CONVERSION OF BIOMASS RESOURCES FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW BIOHERBICIDES (1/3)

Globally, the widespread use of herbicides results in an unknowing general exposure of the population to herbicides. Not only_x000D_ through foods that have been treated with plant protection products, but also in the environment or by direct contact being in_x000D_ the same areas where they are applied. Herbicides have been applied, with permission and even promotion, by the competent administrations_x000D_ in public spaces such as roads, service lines, sidewalks, gardens and parks_x000D_ for more than 70 years._x000D_ On the other hand, the food industry, during the transformation of raw materials into processed products, generates a series of_x000D_ waste/by-products that are currently underutilised. Most of these organic remains have in their composition_x000D_ interesting compounds with physicochemical properties that make them potentially useful for certain applications o_x000D_ are a good raw material for the production of new compounds or materials, in this case application of bioherbidas._x000D_ Therefore, the ATILA project is proposed as a revolutionary and clean alternative to the use of glyphosate and other chemical herbicides in growing areas (almonds and olive groves), thus ensuring the protection of health and the environment, as well as constituting a line of use and sustainable transformation of the waste generated.
