Improving flood safety for the City of Gliwice through modernisation and expansion of the rainwater management system – stage II

The main objective of the project is to solve problems of rain and rainwater management in the Gliwice City area by improving the flow of rainwater drainage and creating water retention possibilities. The project will contribute to improving the capacity of rainwater retention, achieving Polish and European standards and standards relating to rainwater management in the City of Gliwice, and will enable more efficient management of the rainwater network. A portion of rainwater from the area of the City is captured and drained by the rainwater system. However, the network does not cover important areas of the city, and it operates locally inefficiently, resulting in flooding in the event of excessive rainfall. The following main qualitative and quantitative deficiencies have been identified which justify the implementation of the planned investment tasks: introduction into surface waters of rainwater with pollution indicators exceeding the permitted standards, lack of rainwater retention, numerous flooding, lack of management systems for polluted rainwater, which should be collected and managed, infiltration of water from sewage systems with poor technical status to the ground. The first phase of the project included a number of tasks in the field of rainwater drainage infrastructure carried out in the years 2013-2016 or during implementation. They were submitted for funding in the first call for projects under measure 2.1 OP IIA 2014-2020 in the project “Improving flood safety for the City of Gliwice through modernisation and expansion of the rainwater management system”. The co-financing agreement has already been signed. Planned indicators for stage II of the project, including: Length of the built rainwater drainage network: 8.362 km, length of the remodeled rainwater drainage network: 1,797 km, number of built or reconstructed rainwater management equipment – 36 pcs.
