The overall objective of this project is to increase the safety of the airlines operating within the perimeter of Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj R.A. as well as their level of confidence in ensuring the safe conduct of air traffic on the AIAIC runway. The project falls within the framework of Annex 10 “Types of investments in infrastructure and equipment necessary for carrying out non-economic activities” financed under Priority Axis 2 – Developing a multimodal, quality, sustainable and efficient transport system, Specific Objective – 2.3 Increasing the sustainable use of airports" and is not subject to state aid. The project contributes to the realisation of the program indicator – 2S17 – Modernised airports, which is represented by the equipment to be purchased within the project. Currently, at Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj R.A. there is no FOD detection system for take-off-landing track 07-25. Through the project “FOD detection system for takeoff-land runway 07-25”, Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj intends to purchase a FOD identification system in order to comply with the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 139/2014 laying down technical requirements and administrative procedures related to aerodromes, ADR.OPS.B.016 Foreign object debris control programme. FODs are one of the most serious hazards for aircraft. The activity of the airport generates a large amount of waste and debris, which, if not collected and discarded, can remain on paved surfaces, where the aircraft circulate and therefore represent an extremely difficult risk to control. FOD (foreign object debris) can be produced by many activities and can be generated by personnel, aerodrome infrastructure, environment (e.g. wind, heavy rain), aircraft, vehicles or other equipment operating at the aerodrome. The airport has procedures in place for the identification and removal of FODs, which are carried out by personnel responsible for inspection of the movement area. In addition, all staff in charge of the movement area are required to collect and report the presence of FODs. By implementing an FOD Detection System for takeoff-land runway 07-25, issues such as: • Streamlining FOD monitoring (foreign object debris) on the airport runway • Faster and more accurate identification of the foreign object debris area • Reducing the collection time of FODs • Increasing the level of safety in the conduct of airport activities • Compliance with the requirements of Regulation (EU) No 139/2014 laying down technical requirements and administrative procedures relating to the airfield
