Previously common in our pastoral landscapes, the shredders are increasingly rare. The grey shredder is one of the most threatened birds of extinction in France. For the redheaded shredder, the situation is also worrying. The main causes of their decline are related to the destruction of their habitat and the decline of their food resources as a result of changing agricultural practices. In 2009, experts estimated that 85 % of the French population of Grey Shrives was located in the Massif Central, the same for 5 % of the French nesting populations of redheaded shrives. This gives this territory a great responsibility for the conservation of these species in France. The objective of the programme is the preservation and restoration of the habitats used by the different species of shredders, and also to ensure the maintenance of their food resources. Almost half of the Central Massif corresponds to agricultural land.Farmers are the first managers. They are therefore valuable allies in maintaining biodiversity.Given the intimate relationship that the Pies-Shrèche have with these environments, the mode of action chosen to try to safeguard them is to support agricultural practices respectful of biodiversity. The LPO Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is committed to an approach to accompany the agricultural world and to raise awareness among the general public in order to achieve this.
