Purchase of an amphibious craft and a barge for the hydraulic restoration of rivers and maintenance of ponds and wetlands in the territory of the PNRM

The Regional Natural Park of Martinique (PNRM) wishes to acquire an amphibious craft and a barge in order to maintain the banks of the rivers of its territory. It initially plans to intervene on a “pilot site” on the river la Manche, located about 700 meters downstream of the RN5 (buffer zone of the future Regional Nature Reserve (RNR) of the Baie de Génipa, in consultation with the DEAL, authorised by prefectoral order N°11-04192 of 8 December 2011, to ensure interventions in this space. The works, complementary to those of the DEAL, will then aim to remove the bamboo, responsible for the majority of the ice jams encountered in the bed and at the mouth of the river la Manche (hydraulic and sedimentary restoration) and to replace them with local plant species. In a second step, the PNRM plans to enhance and develop the pond “Fernand” located in the Démarche district in Schoelcher. It therefore intends to maintain the biodiversity that is retained. The use of the amphibious machine will allow intervention on the pond. This wetland will be made available for educational, scientific and cultural purposes. This river maintenance work will be carried out by the ACI (Ateliers et Chantiers d’Insertion) “Maintenance and restoration of the hydraulic continuity of wetlands”, carried out by the PNRM, which aims to train staff in ecological engineering and other gentle techniques for the maintenance of rivers.
