The commune of Saint-Claude is the only assembly commune in Guadeloupe. The territory of Saint-Claude includes several protected natural areas classified, the biosphere reserve or the “Man and Biosphere programme of UNESCO” on the part classified heart of the park, 2 ZNIEFF type I and II located in Grand Matouba (the “smoked forest and the banks of the Saint-Louis river, and at the Dimba plateau and forest baths yellows”), the departmental-domanial forest managed by the NFB, 2 wooded areas classified in Montéran and Morin and the classified forest area is integrated into the IBA (area of importance for the conservation of birds) of the forest massif of Basse-Terre. In June 2019, the municipality of Saint-Claude obtained the recognition “Territories committed to nature (TEN)”. In this continuity, the municipality of Saint-Claude plans to hire a TEN official, category A, to carry out and continue its programme “Engaged Territory for Nature”. The hiring of this person is expected to take place in November 2021 and its mission should last at least 13 months, i.e., until 31 December 2022.
