NANO 2022

The European IPCEI (Important Project of Commun European Interest) scheme supports research and innovation projects in several strategic areas. The nanoelectronics plan involving Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom brings together 25 industrialists and two research institutes around five technological fields: low-power processing chips, power components, smart sensors, advanced photonic devices, and compound semiconductor materials, alternatives to conventional silicon at the base of the vast majority of today’s electronic chips. At the regional level, the Nano 2022 project will enable ST Microelectronics (STM), with the help of GREMAN and GREMI, to implement at its site based in Tours a new manufacturing line for gallium nitride (GaN) components by 2020, the result of work started in 2004 notably within the CERTeM (CERTeM 2020 and CERTeM+ programmes) and to allow the manufacture of components on 8-inch pads (first plant of this type at group level).
