CARMA Analytical Platform

The CarMa project aims to create on the Clermont site a unique and original platform for characterising natural and synthetic materials that will allow to respond to different industrial and/or academic issues (R D, quality control, fundamental research). The CarMa platform will be multi-scale and multimodal: multiscale to understand the material as a whole (macroscopic scale) and to the level of its smallest internal components (microscopic to nanoscopic scale); multimodal to correlate information from different measurement techniques: electron imaging of microstructures, point chemical analysis of phases and chemical mapping, Raman spectroscopy, high resolution chemical tomography. It will offer an innovative combination of state-of-the-art techniques for basic, applied and collaborative research to meet the demands of regional companies in the field of study and characterisation of solids: rocks, industrial minerals, glasses, concretes, materials for electronics, ceramics, composite materials, nanomaterials. At the regional level, it will make it possible to catch up in infrastructure type of analysis of Auvergne materials compared to the Lyon and Grenoble poles, as well as to offer a specialisation in “geomaterials” which will be an asset for all actors in the scientific community.
