The overall objective of the project is to improve the standard of living of the population and the quality of the environment, by optimising the waste management system in accordance with the legislative requirements in the field, with the provisions of the circular economy package and with commitments made through the environmental sector, in the context of Priority Axis 3 LIOP/Thematic Objective 3.1. The project is converging with Priority Axis 3 of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (Development of environmental infrastructure in conditions of efficient resource management), Specific Objective 3.1. (Reducing the number of non-compliant landfills and increasing the preparation for waste recycling in Romania) as it aims to extend the separate waste collection system to Sector 6 of Bucharest, by placing 886 pre-collection platforms for household waste within the territorial area of the sector as part of the implementation of the integrated waste management system at the level of Bucharest. The project therefore constitutes a first step in an integrated approach of Sector 6 City Hall, which involves, in a complementary way, at a later stage, the creation of a new sorting station that meets the volume and performance requirements specific to modern waste sorting infrastructures. Thus, in the light of the extension of the system of separate collection of household waste, it is facilitated to increase the recycling rate of household waste, both due to a higher public awareness of the importance of separate collection and recycling of waste, and, above all, due to the fact that the project provides infrastructure to encourage such an approach. The existing target in Sector 6 is therefore to achieve a recycling rate of household waste and similar of at least 50.00 %, and with the construction of the sorting plant, at a future stage of the investment, this rate will increase further.
