Modernisation and expansion of operating capacity in Medgidia port

Medgidia Port is mentioned in the Master General Transport Plan of Romania, approved by Government Decision no. 666/2016 and is listed in Annex 10.4 — List of priority projects for ports, position 15. According to the evaluation carried out in 2011-2013, MPGT proposes to modernise the current infrastructure in order to achieve the following operational objectives: unlocking barriers to operational efficiency, reducing costs through operational efficiency, increasing the volume of goods transported through sustainable modes of transport. The main objective of the project is to increase the volume of goods transited by inland waterways by extending the operating capacity in the port of Medgidia, in order to provide optimal conditions for the shipping of goods. The implementation of the project contributes to the achievement of the result indicator 2S69 (Goods transported by inland waterways), as well as to the programme indicator 2S6 (ports located on the upgraded TEN-T) under A.P.2.
