Maritime-coastal tourism is a growing trend among families, youth, and middle-aged tourists. Visitors have high expectations regarding service quality. The project's aim was to help harbors transform into attractive and modern meeting places, raise the quality of services and standards in Archipelago harbors, lengthen the high season, provide a secure and safe environment, and activate other service providers and employment in the region.
The availability of highly valued harmonized standards like Blue Flag and Blue Star Marina in a harbor usually determines travelers' decisions on their (next) destination. The project connects 32 harbors and other relevant actors across the CB and has jointly elevated the level of services using environmentally friendly solutions only.
To be certified according to renowned standards, plan and implement common marketing activities, and raise harbor safety, well-planned investments were critical. The need for improved facilities to meet the criteria set in selected standards differs substantially among harbors.
The motto of the entire project is: "Opening the door to a destination." Visitor-friendly harbors are opened not only to (boat) tourists but also to hikers, cyclists, and families from nearby or beyond villages.
Dockside pedestals with 2- or 3-phase electricity, drinking and non-potable water, laundry, modern mooring, ship logs, BerthMaster online, and other services are now available in harbors.
