Open Museums – expanding the programme capacity of cultural institutions in the Polish-Slovak border region

The main objective of the “Open Museums...” project is joint protection, strengthening and development of tangible and intangible natural and cultural heritage and effective and sustainable use of the heritage to increase the attractiveness of the Polish-Slovak border area. The project emphasises the cultural, historic and natural values of the area inhabited by Polish and Slovak communities, which are managed by partner museum-type institutions. The implementation of the objective will contribute to the attainment of the specific objective of the Programme: Increasing the sustainable use of cultural and natural heritage by visitors and local population. The project, which is implemented in the Polish-Slovak border region by 8 partners, including 6 from Poland and 2 from Slovakia, includes investments related to the modernisation of museum facilities and the neighbouring areas with a view to making them publicly available. The modernisation will include activities related to infrastructure, including development and renovation of museum facilities and the neighbouring area in order to turn them into gardens/sensory gardens/educational spaces/studio warehouses as a new cultural and tourist product. New, attractive exhibitions presenting the local heritage will be organised in the sites. To make the borderland more attractive for tourists, the partners will create their offers, also addressed to persons with special needs: persons with disabilities, seniors, parents with children – for tourists and residents. The project also involves creating e-tools (multimedia system applications) for the development of cross-border tourist offer in order to present and protect the heritage, along with promotion and information activities, which will contribute to raising the number of the potential client group for the newly created offer. The project will have a cross-border and partnership character and will involve the exchange of knowledge and experiences as well as development of skills.
