The underlying purpose of the project is to improve the access, quality, and standards of road transport in order to increase cross-border mobility. This can be achieved by modernising roads in the “Żytawa Sack”, i.e. the voivodship roads Turoszów-Sieniawka and Zatonie-Bogatynia together with the Schrammstraße street - being the sections that carry the transport load towards the existing border crossings in Sieniawka, Zittau, Radomierzyce (DE-PL) or Kopaczów and Bogatynia (CZ-PL). The newly repaired roads on the Polish side would complement the traffic-laden federal B99 Görlitz-Zittau road. The Schrammstraße street enables reaching border crossings in Porajów (DE-PL) and Hrádku nad Nisou (PL-CZ) from the Żytawskie Mountains region, bypassing the town centre. Improvement in technical condition of the roads and traffic safety facilities will affect predictability and organisation of individual and public transport and will ensure safer travelling with better comfort. The project ensures continuity with to-date activities to improve the road infrastructure and remove transport obstacles, thereby helping to cover the area with an isochrone index that corresponds to possibly shortest TEN-T motorway access times. Simultaneous popularisation of the usage of road infrastructure capacity will influence the freedom of trip planning.
