The project proposal of the Municipality of Smolyan “Introducing good practice for reducing the amount of landfilled waste and raising awareness and recycling capacity in the municipality of Smolyan” is a proposal for a demonstration project that uses good practice from a successfully implemented project outside the territory of Bulgaria, assessed as such, by an organisation with delegated powers by the European Commission. The objective of this project proposal is to provide support for the successful implementation of activities identical in content and appropriateness, through the implementation of which: Reduce the amount of waste landfilled and thus increase the share of recycled waste, through priority implementation of activities that are highest in the waste management hierarchy and thus achieve the objectives of Article 31(1) of the Waste Management Act, namely prevention of municipal waste; Another objective with the utmost importance of the project proposal is to raise awareness and public awareness and to establish a model of responsible civil behaviour for compliance with the said waste management hierarchy and through more implemented activities in this regard, to support waste prevention and increase the participation of citizens in their separate collection. The activities of this project concern only municipal waste and provide for such activities/measures/actions. The main project activities replicate meaningful activities from good practice, adapted to the environment in which they are intended to be implemented, namely on the territory of 10 municipal schools in the municipality of Smolyan. It is planned to carry out 1 comprehensive information program for establishing a new model of behaviour for the prevention of municipal waste on the topic “Reduction of the amount of landfilled waste through highly responsible behaviour”, as well as numerous activities to promote the results of the project at national level.
