React-EU: Värmland ReAct

The Corona pandemic has weakened and changed the situation in the labor market. The amount of unemployed has increased and particularly in the groups that already had difficulty entering the labor market. Particularly affected are young people, for whom the first contact with the labor market is very important. The pandemic has caused a big difference and the proportion of entry-jobs have been heavily reduced. The hardest affected industries are, e.g., store and retail, hotel, restaurant and tourism. The Norwegian labor market has previously, especially in the municipalities close to the border, been a good opportunity for Swedish young people to find a first job without requirement for education and experience. The partly closed border between Norway and Sweden halved the cross-border trade already during the pandemic's first year 2020. In the project React EU: Värmland ReAct there are nine municipalities collaborating (Eda, Forshaga, Hagfors, Karlstad, Munkfors, Storfors, Säffle, Torsby and Årjäng). The target group is women and men who have become unemployed during the pandemic, focusing on the ages 16 - 20 years (young people in the municipalities activity responsibility, KAA). The projects efforts will strengthen the position of young people in the labor market and make it easier for them to find a job or start studying as quickly as possible. The main focus in the project is to seek new paths for young people to find entry-jobs, ways to expand matching and work opportunities combined with educational initiatives increasing young people attractiveness in the labor market. This work will be made in close collaboration with Företagarna Värmland. A survey of small businesses recruitment needs will be made and will show the needs for shorter training initiatives that are suited to strengthen the employment opportunities for young people. Collaborating municipalities will in the project strengthen their work to support unemployed women and men through working methods that strengthen collaboration with the business industry and influence attitudes that counteract the segregated labor market in the county.
