RSFI, an integration project based at the adult learning center at Hässleholm municipality, has for almost three years worked towards developing a consolidated approach to meet the needs of immigrants and assisting them in creating a new life in Sweden. The approach has included efforts targeting the project’s participants in the three phases ’landing, learning and working’. The project has generated a wealth of experience which, applied in the right way, could be utilised in a more specialized project focused on shortening the transition onto the job market – whilst for the participants also ensuring a maintained dignity, improved health and the necessary skills and knowledge. In the Origo project, the experiences from RSFI and other similar initiatives will be used to develop a method focused on finding clear pathways onto the job market. The target group consists of newly arrived immigrants who have been in Sweden no longer than seven years, and who struggle with bad mental and physical health. The project will focus particularly on immigrant women, who through the integration process is particularily vulnerable. The project has taken this into consideration when outlining its targets around gender equality. Origos partners include Arbetsförmedlingen, Hässleholms Miljö AB, and representatives from the private as well as from the third sector. The project will employ a wide range of professionals who will work towards (applying the experience and knowledge gained through RSFI) preparing the immigrant for the transition between the different phases ’landing, learning and working’, as well as identifying and exploring new and existing pathways onto the job market, education or self employment.
