Integration lift

The project will train 25 people to be leaders of health schools and 600 people in cultural norms and understanding. The participants are employees from the County Council and different municipalities in Sörmland. The large influx of migrants has increased the pressure on the public sector in Sörmland. Employees at, for example, health centers and schools have to cope with an increased volume of people and work situations that require new knowledge and understanding. Based on this situation, Samordningsförbundet RAR and Sörmland Regional Council initiated together the project application. By strengthening the ability of employees to offer support to migrants in a health perspective, the project can create conditions for a faster integration of new arrivals. Healthy individuals are more likely to enter the labor market. The background to this initiative is to spread the successful concept "Health School for migrants" from the project IBIS (ESF). Health Schools have been conducted in Eskilstuna, Flen, Katrineholm and Oxelösund. The participants have gained greater self-awareness and take more responsibility for their own health. By training more leaders and thus being able to start more health schools can migrants get better access to the labor market or studies. In the project, we also want to educate a larger and broader group of employees in municipalities and county councils in cultural norms and understanding. The project will offer education for staff members who will be responsible for health school for migrants (adults and adolescents > 15 years). The target groups are nurses and physiotherapists or similar and appropriate actors to engage in health schools such as for example, Health care centers or student health care. There is a great need for cultural understanding and knowledge for staff members facing the new arrivals. Therefore, the project will also offer such training to a broader group of employees in county councils and municipalities. This part will also include an advanced course for a smaller number of people in every workplace who can spread further knowledge in their organization. The County Council aims for a permanent establishment of health schools for migrants in 2019. Volumes, targets, financing and organization will be developed in two workshops, one in the fall of 2017 and one in the spring of 2018. The County Council will use the training concepts that are developed in this project. At least two health schools should be started before the project ends. Managers and educational leaders will receive advice and support from project staff members.
