The aim of the project is to increase the proportion of companies/workplaces with access to high-speed broadband in Filipstad Municipality and local fibre networks will be built in Filipstad municipality, in accordance with the plan established after needs mapping and public consultation. The Government has an overall target for the whole of Sweden to have access to fast broadband by 2025. The target has three milestones where the first milestone means that 98 % of all households and businesses should have access to at least 1 Gbit/s in their absolute vicinity. l at least 100 Mbit/s by 2020. The second sub-target means that an additional 1.9 % (i.e. 99.9 %) should have access to at least 100 Mbps. The third sub-target is that all households and businesses should have access to at least 30 Mbps. The EU has a target of having access to at least 30 Mbps by 2020. Furthermore, the European Commission has decided to increase access to information and communication technologies. The focus is on expanding city-linked broadband in areas where it is not commercially justified for network operators to invest. The project seeks support for routes where no operator has shown interest in building broadband on a commercial basis. In rural and sparsely populated areas such as Värmland, there are strong links between working broadband connections and equal development. A weak broadband network is a structural barrier to the development of a global and more gender-equal industry. An important and growing industry in Värmland is the hospitality industry, which is strongly international with high broadband dependency for contact with its customers. The number of female entrepreneurs and employees is high. Now almost half of the new businesses in Värmland are set up by women, mainly in commerce, local food production, services and services. Industries with particularly pronounced dependence on well-functioning broadband in sparsely populated areas. Employment in the district is the basis for maintaining public services in the area and entrepreneurship should therefore be a priority. Access to world-class broadband creates opportunities to compete in an increasingly global market.
