The effects of the pandemic, social distancing and homework have resulted in digital leaps in our society. Large parts of the population have started using digital services during the pandemic. There is much to suggest that behavioural changes will continue in whole or in part after the pandemic has come to an end. But without a digital infrastructure, digital transformation cannot take place. The Post and Telecom Agency’s broadband mapping in October 2019 showed that Blekinge is the third worst region in the country in terms of connection to fast broadband. The problems are greatest outside urban areas and, if not expanded, there is a risk that interest in living and running rural businesses will decrease further. This will have a very negative impact on Blekinge’s attractiveness, growth potential and opportunities to solve future societal challenges. The overall objective of the project is to improve Blekinge’s attractiveness for businesses, residents and holiday home owners and to reduce digital exclusion. The project goal is to increase the number of connections to fast broadband in Blekinge by 10 per cent. The focus of the project is on knowledge building. By increasing knowledge of how broadband deployment and digital transformation are interlinked, broadband deployment will be accelerated and will in turn provide the prerequisite for digital transformation. In this way, the project is expected to contribute, in the long term, to strengthening the regional and digital management capacity of Blekinge and thereby enabling the actors to work proactively with concrete measures.
