The blockchain hackathon innovation program

Dutch Blockchain Hackathon BV (DBH) offers Europe’s largest open blockchain innovation program. The purpose: Co-Creating the next operating system for improving society, or using blockchain technology to address societal challenges. The open blockchain innovation program aims to further develop the most promising applications of blockchain technology in an open atmosphere. The open blockchain innovation program consists of six ecosystem meet-ups, a hackathon, an acceleration trajectory for the hackathon winners and two post-hackathon showcase conferences, one of which is international. At the same time, a rapidly growing blockchain community is active (mid January '17: 1200+ members) managed by Dutch Blockchain Hackathon. The community is a mix of techs, students and programmers, but also has many SME entrepreneurs and employees of private and public partners. Dutch Blockchain Hackathon BV and its strategic partners want to initiate market development in order to create an innovative blockchain ecosystem. For the North of the Netherlands, this programme offers the opportunity to put itself on the map (internationally) as a region where blockchain innovations are being developed. The programme involves a broad regional blockchain community, national multinationals, regional SMEs and knowledge and education institutions and links them to developers. The programme finds the link with existing Nordic innovation agendas, including the NIA 2014-2020. This includes digitalisation as a connecting theme between different investment lines. Challenges within this theme include bringing together and stimulating cooperation between network partners in the areas of big data, e-infrastructure, e-Science and connectivity, making this network available and addressing the challenge together with industry. The innovation blockchain program tackles this challenge. The program leads to the development of new blockchain applications through new partnerships. The development and application of the technology leads to the future-proofing of business models of established SMEs. In addition, it leads to the creation of new companies that apply innovative business models, creating jobs.
