In the Network of Communities and Values — People and their surroundings in the Danube area around Baja

THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO: The project genuinely serves the general objective of the HKFS and is linked to measure 3, i.e. conservation and renewal of the urban built heritage for cultural and community purposes. In this spirit, its overall aim is to: Renewing the Türr István Museum for cultural and community purposes in such a way as to strengthen the identity of the population, preserve the cultural diversity of common values and increase access to cultural heritage, thereby reducing social inequalities in Baja with 36 thousand inhabitants, multiethnic, diverse population and culture. Awareness-raising of the population of the settlements of the city and its catchment area, development of its community through cooperation agreements with educational institutions, NGOs, minority self-governments and museum community programmes. Direct objective: The implementation of phase 3 of the multi-stage development plan developed by an expert team relevant to the full cultural and community exploitation of the city centre monument with a rich history. In the course of this, an indoor renovation and a new permanent exhibition will be carried out in accordance with professional, social, modern energy-friendly technical requirements of the 21st century, which further enriches the cultural and community functions of the building and which makes the diverse cultural and intangible heritage of Baja and North Bačka known in an interactive way (through works of art, interiors, tactile devices, moving images, sounds, colours, smells, tastes). Thus, the primary objective of the development is to make the collection of artefacts of the Türr István Museum as widely known as possible, as well as to increase the number of visitors to the museum, as well as to increase the number of visitors to the museum, and with the help of the museum pedagogy classes based on the material of the permanent exhibition, the knowledge accumulated in the museum can be transferred to students of Baja, nearby or even further public educational institutions. Currently, the nationally protected monument building, which is located on the main square of the city, represents an important value both in terms of architecture and location, and most of its interior is still significantly underused. The greatest difficulty in exploiting the potential lies in the poor physical/technical state of the interior of the building, on the one hand, and the efficient sharing of the interior necessary for the improvement of the content, and on the other hand, the poor quality of the interior in relation to the need. Modern renovation/reconstruction of the interior has not been carried out to date. For decades, the slab structure, ceilings, power grids, water and sewage pipes are outdated, and the heating system and the water block need to be completely upgraded, as a result of previous intakes. The permanent exhibitions were made more than 20 years ago, so installation and content do not meet the needs of the present age. Not only is it outdated in its appearance, but it also needs to be revived and refurbished with regard to the concept of exhibitions and the growing art collection. The establishment of stable material and personal conditions is an essential prerequisite for high-level museological, scientific, educational and museum education activities. The absence or inadequate level of provision of any of these prevents high-quality professional work. Therefore, in this project we would like to renew the most important publicity and presentation of the scientific and educational institution, the outdated permanent exhibitions. This is also the 3 rd implementation of the institution’s strategic development plan. In addition to the expansion and development of scientific and cultural public services in Baja, the István Türr Museum aims to develop services of regional importance in three districts (Bajai, Bácsalmési, Jánoshalmi), by presenting its collection units unique in Bács-Kiskun County, but also nationally as well with its new permanent exhibition. The main effects of the renewal of the permanent exhibition in the local community are: Short-term impact: cultural and community functions linked to the target object will be strengthened and a new function will be created. Medium-term impact: cultural and tourism programme opportunities, extracurricular learning opportunities, demanding leisure time for target groups, improved access to cultural heritage, quantitative and qualitative change in the relationship between the city (the museum) and visitors Long-term impact: increasing equal opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups with wide access to cultural goods, promoting the preservation of cultural identity, preserving and renewing traditions, whereby local culture, local values and traditions, as the forces retaining society, regain their place, role and attitude towards cultural heritage — the inherent and forging the local community
