Development of a green city in Győr

Within the framework of the project, the Municipality of Győr is planning to renovate the Hermann Ottó Street Market Hall in a consortium with Győr-Szol Zrt, which is 100 percent owned by Győr-Szol, as well as to build a parking plate, as well as to develop the green area of the action area in Rádorváros. In the Integrated Urban Development Strategy of the City of Győr, the Green City project is named for the part of the town of Nádorváros, along with the development of the Market Hall and its surroundings. Dr. Kovács Pál County Library and Community Square can be found in the action area, which is a popular meeting point for the population, whose complex function-enhancing renovation is to be realised by the Municipality from a tender source. The Hermann Ottó Street Market Hall is located on the border between Nádorváros and Adyváros, whose densely populated environment is abundant in unresolved problems (transport, parking, lack of green surfaces, etc.). These problems provide a long-term solution for the activities to be implemented by the consortium. Presentation of activities to be implemented by the City of Győr: There are currently two larger green areas in the action area: in terms of location, the area is more closed, but larger, with sports grounds and playgrounds (9 400 m²) and the green area next to Hermann Ottó Street (6 300 m²) with more spacious but smaller floor space, including a playground, a dog runner and a “slean codeom”. The green areas have been refurbished over the years, but they have not been fully refurbished. The areas to be developed do not show an aesthetic picture, there is no consistency in style, the uniform appearance, their expected wear and tear can be set at different times. Planned activities in the existing green areas covered by the project (Malom grove, Dr. Kovács Pál County Library and Community Square) and in the action area: • the status and planned replacement of the timber stock in the areas concerned; • increase the shrub stock of affected areas (replacement of deficient hedges, creation of new shrub surfaces); • flowering of affected areas; • increasing the intensity of maintenance work (e.g.: installation of a watering network, etc.); • reconstructing existing, ruined space cladding; • the creation of new green islands in the space cladding (adapted to the operation of the market hall); • the installation of shadowing trees in a new cross-net and/or patched; • the construction of rest areas, the installation of benches and other public equipment, and the placing of bins; • rehabilitation of existing green surfaces: weed control, oversowing, reheating, parallel to multiple mowing and irrigation; Within the framework of the project, the Municipality intends to create a new landscaped green area of about 3 000 m² in the neighbourhood of the Market Hall, which will increase the size of the green surfaces of the city and the new green area to be created between the typically 10-storey houses will greatly increase the comfort and quality of life of the population. Presentation of the activities to be implemented by Győr-Szol Győri Public Service Provider and Asset Management Zrt. The popular Hermann Ottó Street Market Hall with decades of tradition in Győr shows a functional system dating from 30 years ago. Today’s traffic situation in the market hall is characterised by congestion, a significant shortage of parking spaces, often irregular parking and logistical problems, especially during the high-profile market days. The solution for the coming decades is the large-scale dismantling of the existing building (the aim is to preserve the structure if its static condition allows it) and the construction of a new market hall, as well as the construction of a parking plate of 250-280 seats, which will provide a direct connection to the market hall building. In the course of the development, it is important to maintain the current commercial areas and units, as well as to solve the location of traders who may be scattered around the building in order to redesign the spaces thus liberated as public spaces. In addition, the aim is the complex energy renovation of the market hall. Charging equipment for electric vehicles is also installed on the parking plate. A cargo lift is installed for vertical handling of goods inside the building. The newly developed escalator in the building provides the opportunity to make better use of the floor space, thereby optimising the operation. In the interest of equal opportunities, an elevator, a barrier-free toilet, an information desk, and parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are installed in the market hall.
