Renovation of the building of the Göcsej Museum and development of its exhibition spaces

The aim of the project Preliminary History Zalaegerszeg Municipality prepares and implements a number of outstanding tourism developments in the 2014-2020 period. The Göcsej Museum, concerned by this project, is one of the elements of the project entitled “Development of Mindszenty Road of Zalaegerszeg” within the Modern Cities Programme, which was declared by the Government as an important development from a national economic point of view in 2016. The programme is supported by two sources, developed in several implementation locations: HUF 4.3 billion of national funding is provided by the Government under the Modern Cities Programme (MVP) and HUF 1.3 billion will be submitted for support under this project for the Territorial and Urban Development Operational Programme. The refurbishment of the Göcsej Museum within the MVP programme is a separate development element in line with the aims of this call, the implementation of which expands the tourist and cultural offer of the city and region. There is no part of the development described in this application that overlaps the use of MVP and TOP funds. The renewal of the Göcsej Museum can be clearly delimited from the elements from the MVP source, both in terms of content and from a financial point of view. However, in view of its impact and the fullest possible achievement of the objectives of the call, it interacts closely with the Mindszenty programme’s other MVP-sourced minds. The preparation of the development was already started in 2015, the procurement of the planning and technical inspector tasks in the public procurement procedure took place in 2016 at the expense of MVP funds, so they are not included in the budget of the present grant application. The neobaroque building of the Museum of Göcsej is the dominant space for the cultural life of the town of Zalaegerszeg. The mission of the people working in the historic building is to preserve, enhance and maintain the values of the past in order to transfer as much as possible to future generations all the centuries of experience and knowledge that determines our unique identity of Zala within our national identity. The Museum collects, organises and makes available to the public the intellectual and tangible heritage, cultural assets and folk traditions of the historical Zala county. The Göcsej Museum, its permanent and temporary exhibitions, are a tourist attraction of local, county and regional significance. The general objective of the project is to develop an innovative, unique, regionally competitive, experience-based and sustainable cultural attraction in Zalaegerszeg that meets the needs of quality tourism. The basic objective of the project is twofold. On the one hand, by preserving and renewing the monument building, it develops the built heritage as a tourist attraction and, on the other hand, the monumental environment is home to the exhibiting and display spaces in it, which are close to experience, combining the technical achievements of the modern age and traditions, allowing the museum to contribute to increasing the tourist attraction of the town of Zalaegerszeg County Rights and this will have a positive effect on the time spent by tourists visiting Zalaegerszeg in the city. As a result of the development, tourists can spend longer in the city and the region and have an indirect economic development impact on their needs and needs.
