Green Zala Coast — development of a cycling route for tourist purposes along Zala and Gébart

Project APPLICATION APPLICATION Objective: Zalaegerszeg is located in the Zala valley and thanks to this, it is the largest settlement along one of the main axes of national and, to some extent, international cycling transport. The route of the Zala Valley bike path connecting the EuroVelo 13 Corridor to the Balaton Bringakör Road crosses the city. This route connects Austria and Lake Balaton with an easily achievable elevation line. This link is therefore of paramount importance and it is therefore necessary to develop and guide the section through the city with cross-sectional features belonging to the so-called category A. In addition, other cycling facilities, equipment (resting area, water intake, etc.) need to be set up and properly accommodated in order to achieve an adequate level of service. In addition to transit traffic, regional needs for the surrounding area are also strongly affected by the city. Zalaegerszeg also has many beautiful tourist attractions, which need to be explored and perfectly accessible to potential destinations. In addition, tourist attractions in the catchment area of the city, such as Göcsej, are also likely to be accessible through Zalaegerszeg. The aim of the project is to build on the cultural values of Zalaegerszeg to create a new attraction for cyclists, as well as the city’s existing tourist offer (e.g. Göcsey Village Museum, TV Tower, AquaCity, Thermal Bath, downtown) and the tourist offer under development (e.g. Lake Gébart, Alsóerde Sport and Recreation Centre, Green Zala Beach, Mindszenty József Museum and Pilgrim Centre). The other objective of the project is to close the shortcomings of the tourist infrastructure and service providers of Zalaegerszeg. Through the tourist cycle path development project, we will establish a connection between the already existing Zalalövő-Bagod cycle path and the Zalaszentiván cycle path along the urban section of the Zala River. We believe that the development greatly contributes to the growth of cycling tourism in the region, which has a beneficial effect on the traffic of local tourist service providers, catering establishments and local tourist attractions, thus contributing to the growth of the local economy, thus contributing to the growth of the local economy, out of the 11.2 billion HUF funding of the Integrated Regional Programme of the City of Zalaegerszeg, the missing section of the Zala Valley bicycle road between Bagod and Zalaszentiván as part of the core network of the OTrT national cycle road. The project will contribute to the target of 15.0 km of the indicator ‘Length of established bicycle traffic facilities’ highlighted in priority TOP 6, by implementing a 10.3 km cycle traffic facility. Detailed technical content of the development of Zalaegerszeg MJV General Assembly 107/2015. Adopted by its Decision No 1562/2015 of 13 May 2015 on the Integrated Territorial Programme (ITP) for the years 2014-2020. (VIII. 12.) The Government has also approved it by Government Decision. The project ‘Green Zala Coast — development of a tourist route along Zala and Gébarton’ is part of Zalaegerszeg MJV ITP and is named among the planned TOP projects. The Municipality of Zalaegerszeg MJV plans to finance the development of bicycle infrastructure in Zalaegerszeg under two measures of the TOP: under measure 6.1, we intend to develop sections of the cycle path for tourism and under measure 6.4. In June 2016, we concluded a contract for the preparation of the Bicycle Network Plan (KHT). In view of the fact that the Network Plan serves the preparation of our project submitted under call no. TOP-6.4.1-15 “Sustainable Urban Transport Development” in addition to the project in question, we intend to 50 % of the costs of preparing the SPA in the two projects concerned. THE EXACT TECHNICAL CONTENT OF THE PLANNED INVESTMENT WILL BE DEVELOPED DURING THE PROJECT DEVELOPMENT PHASE. Prior to the submission of the grant application, we held professional consultations with the specialised authorities, utility operators and civil society organisations on the route of the planned cycle paths on several occasions, in particular: • Zala County Government Office Technical Licensing and Consumer Protection Department (authorisation authority for the construction of transport facilities) • Vas County Disaster Management Directorate, Western Transdanubian Water Management Authority • Western Transdanubian Water Management Directorate (Zala River Manager) • Vas County Government Office, Environmental Protection and Nature Protection Department • Balaton Uplands National Park Directorate (manager of NATURA 2000 areas along the Zala region) • Hungarian State Railways Zrt. • Zalaegerszegi Bringaklub • Zalaegerszeg Bicycle Sports Association Program or project
