Sustainable heritage and event tourism development in Kőszeg and its region

Overall objective: Increase the tourist attraction of Kőszeg and its region. Direct objectives: interconnection of the national and Austrian cycle path networks; developing better infrastructure conditions for events; carrying out more efficient and active marketing activities; a higher level of presentation and accessibility of the existing tourism offer to visitors. Matching eligible activities: “Creation of tourism product packages based on the elements of autonomously eligible activities (A-C)”. The infrastructural developments are mainly carried out in Kőszeg, but the regional interpretation elements, marketing activities and tourism organisation serve the area of the Irottkő Natural Park. Subcategories concerned: (CA) Development of active tourism and cycling tourism: Construction of a bicycle path to connect the urban area of Kőszeg and the Austrian cycling routes on the embankment of the former railway line. Ownership is in the process of being settled. The cycle path is a separate 2X1 traffic band and two-way route, the length of the track is expected to be 1400 meters. The route is connected to the Iron Curtain Eurovelo No 13. (AB) Establishing the background of the event infrastructure: The outstanding tourist attraction of the town of Kőszeg is Jurisics Castle, where many traditional programs and events have been organised in recent years. The most outstanding, multi-yearly and attractive programme for tourists: Entry of the Book of Vine Growings, Kőszeg Castle Theatre, Ostromnapok, Kőszegi Harvest and Orsolya Day Fair. All require the existence of a modern event infrastructure, the use of which means cost savings and flexibility. The purchase of a stage with a floor area of 100 sqm and associated cover, outdoor sounding equipment and small-scale auxiliary equipment will be realised. Electricity and water and sewerage connections are implemented for the events. (BA) Sites for the presentation of natural values (e.g.: natural parks) ecotourism development: In the future, the Irottkő Natúrpark office in the centre of Kőszeg will only perform visitor-central and information-service tasks, and the management work of the association will move to another room, which will require small building transformation works. The centre has an interactive installation that, for example, uses digital technologies to project the region’s attractions (picture, film) on a map — (3.1.2.2) E) Eliminating the shortcomings of tourist infrastructure and service providers in settlements with significant tourist attractions: Interventions are primarily carried out in the area of the Irottkő Nature Park. A regional interpretation system will be implemented, which will be available on modern digital devices, helping visitors discover the area as a digital guide. Various games, augmented reality solutions are incorporated into the system. In connection with the better interpretation of cultural heritage, there is a better signposting of the regional attractions, the on-site presentation of archaeological sites, an outdoor installation on the theme of “urban history time tape” in a narrow alley of the historic city centre, and the addition and restoration of musical functions containing interactive solutions of Jurisics Square water fountain (3.1.2.2). The purchase of 3 mobile sanitary facilities will be carried out, which will be installed in the public squares most visited by tourists and next to event venues. Mandatory activities(3.1.2.1): The Marketing Act contributes to a better presentation of regional attractiveness, mainly through promotions of communication (PR, advertising, social media) and the employment of a tourism specialist for 2 and a half years. Public tasks are also being carried out. Only internal refurbishment is required in historic buildings affected by modernisation. Thus, no energy efficiency improvement measures will be implemented. Installation of non-relevant recharging infrastructure and asbestos-free and accessibility. Climate risk arrow attached. The Association is an organisation with NGM TDM registration, which is also a member of the Municipality of Kőszeg. The new attractions, such as the nature park visitor centre, the cycle path will be available all year round, interpretation tools will be available, while the event infrastructure can be used both indoors and outdoors. The actions will be available to all tourists, whether they are primarily active or with cultural tourism interests. The number of visitors expected during the project is 6,500 at the end of the first full calendar year after the end of the project. The city of Kőszeg imposes a tourist tax and undertakes to use the state supplement of the IFA for tourism purposes (information office, operation of tourist attraction, area marketing, priority regional event) during the maintenance period. Local products and souvenirs offered in the region are obtained from entrepreneurs in the surrounding area, who are also members of the ...
