Technological, infrastructural and architectural development of the Danube market space in order to expand the marketing opportunities of producers and product processors living and operating in the settlement.

The town of Dunaföldvár is 90 km south of Budapest, 50 km north of Szekszárd, on the right bank of the Danube, almost in the middle of the country. The intersection of main roads 6, 61 and 52, the bridge across the Danube, made the small town one of the important intersections of the country. The settlement lies at the intersection of three counties (Tolna, Fejér and Bács-Kiskun) and even three regions (South Transdanubia, Central Transdanubia and Southern Great Plain). The inhabitants of the village (8900 people) live mainly from agriculture and trade. Located between the two industrial centers (Dunaújváros, Paks), the inhabitants of a calm small town with good air preserve their values and cultivate their traditions. The market and fair have been in operation since the 18th century, which are famous not only for their local but also regional significance. The country’s second largest national animal and unloading fair takes place 9 times a year. Market operates 52 times a year on Saturdays. On the other days of the week, except on Sunday, there is a small market in the city centre. The municipality considers it a matter of heart to expand the marketing opportunities of local farmers, producers and processors. We consider it important that some 25 000 people living in and around the village (Dunaföldvár 8800, Solt 7000, Bölcske 3000, Madocsa 2000, Dunaegyháza 1200, Pre-Accession 2000) can buy good quality local products. It has also been observed in recent years that well-trained young people have left the settlement, moved to large cities and moved abroad. Fortunately, some new job-creating investments have been made, including a bioethanol plant based on local maize. The city’s roles extend beyond its own administrative boundaries: as the organising centre of its narrower area, in addition to its own population, it also provides the population and businesses of the surrounding villages with various administrative, educational, cultural, health and business services. Due to its excellent logistical positions, it becomes a natural micro-region attraction centre not only in Transdanubia, but also in the surrounding areas of the Great Plain. — Dunaföldvár is situated on the border of several administrative units: — there are three districts in the immediate vicinity (Dunaújváros in Transdanubia and Kalocsa and Kunszentmiklós in the Great Plain); — three counties are either directly adjacent to it (Fejér or Bács-Kiskun) or close to it (Pest); — in addition, these three counties belong to three urban development regions (Central Transdanubia, South Great Plain and Central Hungary). In addition, the city is located along a number of corridors, which form part of the Trans-European Network (TEN) as a priority in the European Union’s transport policy: — the M6 motorway is the V/C corridor; the Danube River is Corridor VII. — EuroVelo 6 Objectives and expected results The current unvalued quality status plays a very important role in the renewal of the Danube market, and the appreciation of the role of local products plays a significant role. By purchasing local products, we contribute to the sustainability of our own environment. With every forint spent locally, we help the local economy to survive, we help preserve jobs or indirectly contribute to the creation of new ones. The profits generated locally generate local development. If we source the most important food and other goods from our own environment, we reduce the environmental pressure associated with production and transport and packaging. In a fashionable way, we'll have a smaller ecological footprint. Local products are produced in small quantities, using traditional, close-to-nature methods, making them less burdensome on the environment and on farmland. In addition to economic and environmental impacts, we can more easily preserve our own health. Locally produced and therefore seasonal vegetables and fruits contain less preservatives, they can go further, as they do not have to endure such a long delivery time. It is important for our organisation to always have access to seasonal vegetables and fruits, as they can make the most of them. The ingredients of locally produced products are easier to check, so “we know what we eat”. By favouring landscapes, we contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and to the survival of traditions. In view of the above, we can say that the most important goal of the producer market in Bottyán Vak is to promote food and products produced from local raw materials — local knowledge and work — and to increase their role in domestic consumption. By decision 290/2013.(XI.26.) Kt. of the Municipality of Dunaföldvár, the Municipality of Dunaföldvár decided to launch an idea contest for the development of a new market space at the property of Vak Bottyán Square in Dunaföldvár, 4231/4 hrsz, on the place of the existing market space. The Municipality of Dunaföldvár implements the development as its own investment...
