Preparation of railway infrastructure development projects by BFK Nonprofit Zrt. — Preparation for the implementation of the guard bus terminal at Kelenföld intermodal junction and the expansion of P+R parking lots

The aim of the development is to complete the planning tasks necessary for the implementation of the guardfield bus terminal and the extension of the P+R car parks in connection with the intermodal junction of Kelenföld railway station: The overall objective of the project is to provide additional barrier-free transfer possibilities between public transport links (railway, metro, tram, local and interurban bus) and individual modes of transport located in the area of Kelenföld railway station, to create a higher service level of public transport, to ensure equal opportunities and to further improve the quality of travel comfort. The investment brings together local and regional bus stations on the western side of Kelenföldi Railway Station, which creates a new, covered, terminal-like, modern bus station, which allows the transfer between metro, rail, public transport and interurban bus services without leaving the building complex. The design area is located in the southwest gate of Budapest, in the plot block between Budaörsi út and Kelenföldi Railway Station, which offers the best opportunities among the Budapest intermodal traffic points. It is located close to one of the most important road (M1/M7 motorways) and rail networks in the country, to which Metro 4 and its infrastructure are connected. Budaörsi út, as Budapest and its western agglomeration, is also an important axis of the road connections of Budaörsi út, as well as its western agglomeration. On the Etele Square you can find P+R parking lots, the intercity bus terminal and the end-station of several tram lines. All of this gives rise to a real city centre role in which a real, functional intermodal node can be created. Railway lines, multiple road networks and metro connections have several levels, i.e. capital, conurbation and regional significance. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the development, the following principles should be taken into account to ensure the intermodal role in the Kelenföldi Railway Station area: — metro and bus terminals — provision of short, barrier-free pedestrian connections between P+R car parks; — the aggregation of terminals; — development of a terminal building — ensuring multi-directional accessibility and exit of P+R car parks — development of pedestrian and cycling connections The preparatory project will result in the creation of a common local and interurban bus terminal, which will allow for easier transfer conditions and increase the level of service of public transport, thus making it more attractive for travelers using more individual modes of transport, thereby reducing the number of cars travelling to the city centre. The project also contributes to the latter goal by expanding the P+R car parks. The implementation of the project will also provide better opportunities for public transport access to the South Buda Centrum Hospital. In this context, the planning task also deals with the examination of the possible development of the electrical network, which may also serve the hospital’s approach.
