Passenger development of Budapest Keleti and Budapest Nyugati railway station

The reconstruction of the recording building began in the nineties with the structurally irresponsible reconstruction of the track hall. This included the external and internal renovation of the track hall, the replacement of the roof structure, the renovation of the Baross square facade of the entrance building and the replacement of the so-called Hatvan glass side. The plan for the second phase of the reconstruction of the entrance building was completed, but due to a lack of resources, only the most necessary and immediate danger could be carried out. It is necessary to completely reconstruct the side wings, in the spirit of intermodality, to completely rearrange the passenger and passenger service system of the railway station. Several variants are to be prepared for the renovation of the hall building. The reconstruction programme of the Keleti railway station, planned as a continuation of the hall renovation, was previously planned in phase II, in which the renovation of the two-sided wings under the railway station by the construction of a new underpass system, the inclusion of the parts of the cellar below the side wings in the development programme and real estate utilisation, as well as the establishment of a transversal connection at the centre line and end of the hall building to the pedestrian connection of the parts of Kerepesi út and Thököly út. With this, a direct connection was planned with Metro No. 4, and the second exit of metro line 2 leads here, the civil engineering works of which have been completed in such a way that the connection can be realised later. Alternatively, a simplified project focusing on the renovation of the side wings of the entrance building should be examined without the extension of the underpassing system below the tracks and the use of the basement level, with the most necessary changes in passenger traffic linked to the new situation (Museum 4, Metro 2, second exit). For both versions, complete functional testing of the railway station’s high-rise structures is to be carried out. During a change of function, only direct passenger functions should be maintained at the platform level, the remaining part of the hall building and the basement level may be designated for commercial purposes (depending on the variant). In order to replace the groups of rooms to be removed from the admission building, the district of the Utility Residential Building on Kerepesi út was previously designated. In order to meet the parking needs of the railway station and the surrounding institutions, the building of an underground garage is included in the District Regulatory Plan (KSZT). The reconstruction of the Budapest-East railway station entrance building must be carried out in accordance with the objective of the track infrastructure set out in the “S-Bahn” concept, which will be implemented scheduledly according to the NKS/OVK study. In the first phase, a programme to replace the Budapest-Eastern — Kőbánya-top bottleneck was foreseen in the period 2014-2020. The main objective of this is to increase line capacity by using the Józsefváros railway track as Budapest-Józsefváros closed. The second phase perspective of the railway station ensures the introduction of all four tracks connected to Rákos station to the headyard according to the development plan of the Oriental Line Group. The infrastructure development plan of the headyard includes the construction of 18 platforms. The reconstruction of the entrance building is not directly related to the track infrastructure, the new station geometry to be developed. However, in the construction schedule, it is advisable to align the development below the level of space according to the second phase of the renovation of the building with the construction of the track, while in the case of the simplified version the works may be carried out even after the renovation of the building, and the two projects need not be closely coordinated. The interaction between the building renovation programme and the development of the track infrastructure and its accessories should be demonstrated, and in the case of a separate implementation, efforts should be made to minimise the subsequent renovation work. The verification of the functions of the premises in the recruitment building shall be carried out on the basis of the Government window currently under construction. The development of passenger traffic links, the planning of passenger flows, pedestrian and public transport connections shall be established on the basis of the spatial planning plan, with a case-by-case amendment, in consultation with the Budapest and district authorities and the BKK. The headway station included in the project is also the junction of the tramway transport system in Budapest. At Keleti Railway Station, metro lines 2 and 4 and tram line 24 will become more cultural and barrier-free. The development site defined in the project as a headstation using the sect...
