“A better future through inclusive education”

The project aims to address the problem of integration into the education system of students from ethnic minority groups, particularly tangible in small settlements. The measures will be aimed at tackling the isolation of these pupils from their peer group, preventing early drop-out from the education system and subsequent exclusion from the labour market. By implementing the project proposal will create prerequisites for changing social stereotypes towards the Roma ethnic minority and an environment of interethnic tolerance, mutual respect and tolerance. This project proposal addresses the above-mentioned problems on the territory of the municipality of Smolyan through the implementation of the following activities: The attitudes among the target group will be identified, the causes of the problem will be identified and expectations will be established among children and their parents for measures to solve the problem. Interest clubs will be established within the school and students will be included in the most appropriate club and/or in additional Bulgarian language training. Organising them in extracurricular time will keep children longer in school and increase their willingness to study and attend classes. In order to motivate parents and their active and conscious participation in the learning process, discussion meetings in the form of a “school for parents” are foreseen. It is planned to hold talent evenings, where students will demonstrate what they have learned in the clubs of interest and excursions, which will lead to mutual learning, understanding of different ethnicities, preservation and development of their cultural identity. By purchasing new and modern educational and technical tools, didactic materials, etc., the interest and desire for students to attend classes will be increased, because the educational process will be more attractive and the educational content will be presented in an interactive and intriguing way.
