The preparation of the “Integrated Project for Improvement of the Water Sector in Dobrich” started already in 2006, with the financial support of the EU, in implementation of a project: Technical Assistance for the preparation of integrated water measures for the cities of Plovdiv and Dobrich, EuropeAid/124488/D/SV/BG, funded by the ISPA programme. The needs to be met with the implementation of the project are in line with the planned contribution of Operational Programme “Environment 2014-2020” through activities for the implementation of macro-regional and sea basin strategies in the area. The project will contribute to the implementation of the EU macro-regional strategy for the development of the Danube region. The implementation of the project activities will contribute to the achievement of one of the main priorities of the Danube strategy, namely: 4) Restoration and preservation of water quality, as set out in the “Environmental Protection in the Danube Region”. The implementation of the project will achieve the main objectives set out in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and its daughter directives, as well as Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment and Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption. The achievement of these objectives will fully cover the main target group, namely the population of the municipality of Dobrich, and will contribute to improving their quality of life. The main activities to be implemented under the project are:1) Reconstruction and rehabilitation of water and sewerage networks of the town of Dobrich.2)Reconstruction and extension of the wastewater treatment plant of the town of Dobrich. The main results of the project are achieving full connectivity of the population to the WWTP, increasing the quality of the treated waste water, increasing the efficiency of the water supply network of the city and reducing the losses of drinking water along the water network.
