The project proposal provides for the construction of a new training corps for the purposes of the National Academy of Arts — Sofia. The National Academy of Arts is located in one of the most crucial and significant places in the historic center of Sofia between the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky, National Library "St. St. John’s Day. Cyril and Methodius", Sofia University, Parliament and Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The project for extension and reconstruction of the Academy of Arts is a unique opportunity for these remarkable buildings to unite in a harmonious architectural and urban development ensemble of a modern Acropolis. The planned activities foresee the design and construction of a 5-storey building with 18 workshops and 3 lecture halls. The building will be located in the eastern part of the academy and the entrance to the south will be located in close proximity to the existing North Wing of the NAA. On the ground floor, on the first floor and on the second floor there are 4 workshops, while on the third and fourth they are three. The design system is designed to allow flexibility and regrouping of the premises. On the semi-ground level there are 3 lecture halls, computer cabinet and technical rooms. The project aims at implementing the following thematic objectives under the General Regulation 1303/2013: Thematic objective 10 “Investment in education, training, including vocational training for skills and lifelong learning”. The interventions under the project proposal will contribute to the achievement of the indicative national energy saving targets for 2020 under the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2014-2020. The support aims at improving the educational infrastructure and environment in the National Academy of Arts, providing qualifications and skills to university students meeting the needs of the labour market and providing an accessible environment for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
