The project “Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector” provides for the construction of a gas pipeline which will connect directly the national gas transmission networks of the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Bulgaria (“Gas pipeline” or “IGB”). The entry point of the Gas Pipeline is in the region of Komotini (Greece) and the exit point — in the region of Stara Zagora (Bulgaria). The IGB will have an important strategic role, and the direct effects of its construction will be to achieve real diversification of the sources of natural gas supply to Bulgaria, for the natural gas market in Southeast Europe. The IGB is projected to have a pipe diameter of DN 800 (32) and a total length of approximately 182 km. The pipeline shall be designed for a maximum natural gas transmission capacity of 5 bcm/year, with a maximum working pressure of 75 bar, and shall be capable of operating at an initial capacity of approximately 3 bcm/y. The gas pipeline shall also be designed to provide a reverse flow.
