The aim of the project is to reduce the risk of flooding with surface effluent and the negative impact on the environment and economy in Vilnius city. The importance of the project is based on the consequences of climate change, resulting in frequent and severe flooding and adverse effects on both the economy and the environment. It is therefore important to ensure the renovation and development of the Vilnius city’s surface wastewater network, to modernise and restructure the surface wastewater infrastructure. To implement this, two activities are foreseen within the scope of the project: reconstruction and/or new construction of urban surface wastewater networks and other infrastructure, including infrastructure to reduce flood risk (a rainwater area from which the infrastructure for surface water collection would amount to 2 404.56 ha); inventory of urban surface waste water management systems (inventored share of unaccounted for surface waste water drainage would be 33.31 %). The project covers the following activities in the city of Vilnius: ‘Installation of rainwater in the access points of Šeškinė complex’; “Reconstruction of rainwater drainage of T. Narbutas-Saltoniškiai streets with installation of a purifier and pollution monitoring unit”; ‘Reconstruction of the rainwater collector of Iron Wolf with the installation of repositories-cleans and pollution monitoring units’; ‘Reconstruction of Karoliniškės rainwater treatment plant’; “Inventory, data digitisation and registration of rainwater drainage networks in Vilnius”;“Installation of surface wastewater collector reconstruction, treatment and monitoring system at Verkių-Kareivių str.”; “Installation of a reconstruction, treatment plant and monitoring system for the reconstruction, treatment and monitoring of the surface waste water collector of volunteers — Giraitės str.”; “Installation of the reconstruction, treatment and monitoring system of the surface sewage collector in Vilkpėdė street (Phase I)”.
