In the city of Klaipeda, the length of surface sewage networks is about 382 km, of which about 284.9 km are operated by AB “Klaipedos water”. Most of the surface sewage networks are not registered for about 262 km, and it is necessary to carry out an inventory and legal registration of these networks. The uninstalled surface sewage network in some urban districts and streets results in the illegal injection of surface waste water into domestic sewage networks and the loading of urban treatment plants (up to 50 %). Another part of uncollected surface waste water contaminated with petroleum products, organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds enters the ground and pollutes groundwater. Existing collector dischargers are without purification plants, discharge collectors are too small in diameter and some city streets and blocks flood during rainfall. The project “Management of surface sewage systems in the city of Klaipeda” provides for inventory and registration of surface wastewater part, construction of surface sewage networks in Tilžės g., Mokyklos g., Šilutė pl. (2.03 km), Mokyklos g. from Laukai str. to Jotvingių str. (0.65 km), Trinčiai residential quarter (7.50 km), Greenhouse, Aušrinė, Dailės str. (regulating the water level of Mumlaukis lake) (0.73 km), Jūrininkų pr., Bangos str., Joniškės str. (1.45 km), construction of surface sewage collector from LEZ to Jūrininkai ave. (2.00 km), construction of surface wastewater treatment plant on dischargers No 19 (the Trinytė pond at Kooperative Street), No. 18A (to the Trinyčiai pond at Mokyklos street) No. 4, No 10, No 17. The project will allow the management of surface waste water in Klaipėda city in an organised manner, creating preconditions to reduce the risk of urban flooding with surface effluent and improving the city’s economic environment. The treatment of waste water will reduce the negative impact on the environment as the surface effluent treated into the soil and/or surface water bodies will be released after inventory and registration
