Development of water supply and wastewater management infrastructure in Anykščiai district (Troškūnai, Sbluene, Vaidlonyse, Svėdasai)

The aim of the project is the extension of the public supply of adequate quality drinking water and managed waste water in the settlements of Troškūnai, Smėlynė, Vaidloniai and Svėdasai in Anykščiai district. The essence of the project is the improvement of water management infrastructure in Anykščiai district. The project will ensure long-term technical and economic access to socially necessary water supply and wastewater management services for consumers and reduce groundwater pollution. In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on Local Self-Government and the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Supply of Drinking Water and Waste Water Management, municipalities are assigned the functions of organising drinking water supply and waste water management services. Renovation and extension of centralised water supply and wastewater management networks would best ensure the performance of the functions (obligations) of the municipality to provide the population with high quality water and the treatment of waste water discharged in accordance with the requirements. As the area of Anykščiai district is relatively densely populated, centralised water supply and wastewater management from a sanitary, economic and environmental point of view is the best way to solve the problems of the population and thus improve their living conditions. JSC “Anykščiai vandenys” is carrying out this project, as water supply and wastewater management services were transferred by Anykščiai District Municipality Council.
