The aim of the project “Reconstruction of the National Road No.102 Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai” is: increase regional mobility by developing regional links to the European Union’s trans-European transport network and introducing road safety and environmental protection measures on national roads (regional connections to the TEN-T network) outside the TEN-T network. The total length of the section to be reconstructed is 5.62 km. There will be four lanes, two in both directions 2×(3,25+ 3.50) m wide; the carriageways in the opposite direction of traffic will be separated by a 2.0 m wide separation lane with a lawn covering and with a guard guard in the middle. It is also planned to introduce environmental (network fencing), traffic safety improvements (light control installation 17.10 km and 21.04 km, and lighting of these crossings; installation of pedestrians and bicycle paths; installation of protective metal barriers) to arrange engineering networks. After the construction works of the project “Reconstruction of the National Road No.102 Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai” between Vilnius city and Nemenčinė settlement (stretch 16,202-21.822 km), convenient conditions for transit and local traffic will be created, road safety conditions will improve, the number of road accidents will be reduced, and travel time will be reduced. The implementation of the project will contribute to the achievement of the result and the consequences of the action “Reconstruction and construction of the TEN-T road network, including related access roads and direct connecting roads”, supported by the measure of the operational programme, which will reduce car journey times and reduce the risk of accidents on road No.102 Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai between Vilnius and Nemenčinė village.
