Better in many ways — increase in professional careers for women with a migrant background

The aim of the project is to promote the employment and expertise of highly educated women who have emigrated to Finland. The project consists of three sub-projects aimed at a better organisation of experts in the EU(i) to create gender-responsive and diversity-friendly human resources and operational practices in expert organisations.(ii) to strengthen the professional participation and employment of women with a migrant background and to multiply improve society(iii) to dismantle stereotypes associated with migrant women by means of non-technical research and expert communication. The first part of the project is aimed at persons involved in human resources management and recruitment in expert organisations, as well as senior and middle management of organisations. The project will focus in particular on public organisations. The target group of the second sub-component is women who have moved to Finland. The project’s activities relate in particular to high-skilled women who are not in employment or who are not in line with their education or skills, who have moved to Finland, as well as women who are self-employed. The target group of the third sub-project is the authorities, those working in employment services and student counsellors, integration workers in the public and third sectors, women and girls with a migrant background and a wide audience in Finland. The main implementation of the project (2019-2022) is the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (TTL). In the implementation of the Diversity Barometer, the TTL’s partners are Henry ry and KT Municipal Employers. The project will provide better access to research-based information on the challenges, position in working life and skills related to the career development of women with a migrant background. The information helps to develop working life and the practices of expert organisations. The model and concrete tools developed in the project support employers in drawing up statutory equality and equality plans. Non-technical research-based information helps to dismantle stereotypes associated with women with a migrant background.
