The COVID-19 pandemic has put many companies in the Oulu River Valley in difficulties. The difficulties that have arisen in the enterprise field are directly reflected in local government and municipal finances. There must be a coordinated response to the sudden change in the business and municipal economy. Humanpolis Oy, a regional development company owned by the municipalities of Muhos, Vaala and Utajärvi, has focused on promoting the tourism industry through UNESCO Global Geopark. In this role, the company has succeeded well, and the expansion of operations to other industries has been prepared in the context of the ongoing strategy work. We now want to transfer this successful activity to other industries in a timely manner to respond to the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 crisis. The project and the resources that come with it are needed to guide business, to identify the current state of business in the region and the opportunities for cooperation, to inform entrepreneurs, residents and potential investors in the region, to promote the emergence of new businesses and business networks, and to diversify the region’s business life during the COVID-19 crisis and in its late care. The project will guide entrepreneurs to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. This is done, for example, by guiding companies in their development and by helping entrepreneurs to find and assemble new business components that are compatible with each other. In actual company-specific business advice, entrepreneurs are guided by, for example, the regional business advisors of the New Enterprise Centre. If necessary, entrepreneurs are directed, for example, to the productised expert services of the ELY Centre and to start development projects specific to companies or groups of companies. The project has been prepared together with the municipalities of Muhos and Vaala and is based on their needs in this changed situation. The project cooperates with the municipality of Utajärvi through Utajärvi Enterprise Park.
