In recent years, the Association of Lapland has made a special effort to strengthen regional cooperation structures in implementing smart specialisation measures together with regional actors. Good experiences and successes encourage this work to continue to the next level, with a particular focus on developing a regional approach based on business needs and improving the conditions for growth. We are facing major changes in Lapland as the new provincial government starts operations. At the same time as we are building new governance, we need to further strengthen regional cooperation. In the future, we will have to seek more funding from the EU level and other international sources for regional development needs. It can be seen that funding is increasingly directed to support business and business growth. Projects must be able to demonstrate that public investment enables private investment, provides the basis for business growth, helps create new businesses and creates jobs. Lappi — Arctic and international success project was decided to be founded to ensure growth in Lapland’s competitiveness despite future structural changes. To succeed and to achieve the best results, internationalisation must be seen as a joint regional effort, in which cooperation and the best use of different skills will achieve the best possible impact, especially in support of the internationalisation of companies willing to grow. Active participation in various networks at national and international level also offers new openings to the business field. The project’s development goal is to make Lapland the most innovative and entrepreneurial area in the EU’s sparsely populated and circumpolar regions, providing a healthy growth environment for the development of a diverse business field. This objective will be supported through the purpose of the project by bringing together Lapland’s actors to build the role of Lapland as an international actor and to commit to securing the economic development of Lapland in structural change. The project will be launched with the production of an internationalisation strategy for Lapland, which will serve as the basis for building a model of cooperation and cooperation in Lapland. During the development of the strategy, a learning process will be launched together, based on the needs of companies/entrepreneurs to increase skills and capacity in internationalisation. By bringing together a group of 20 entrepreneurs and business developers, we will work together to strengthen expertise in internationalisation and the use of the opportunities offered by various funding to promote growth and exports. Successful experiences are brought together and published "That’s what we did — with stories to encourage companies and other actors to boldly embark on internationalisation. The project will organise best-selling trips in the EU to learn from the good experiences of other regions in promoting business growth and exports, participate in European Cluster of Excellence match-making events and trainings. During the project, a conference on Arctic Future will be held in Rovaniemi in November 2017 together with the Commission and during 2018 in Brussels. There is also strong involvement in international fora that provide added value in increasing the international profile of Lapland and the growth of Lapland as the most innovative and entrepreneurial region in the EU’s sparsely populated and circumpolar regions.
