The central objective of this project is to form the hub of sustainable tourism in the Särkänniemi-Mustalahti region, which has been freed from cars by Rantatunnel. During the project, new low-carbon service solutions will be developed and piloted by the Pirkanmaa tourism service companies and based on this, a sustainable tourism hub action plan will be created in the region. The aim is to develop the renewed Särkänniemi area into an integrated tourism services ecosystem that offers sustainable low-carbon service solutions, especially by utilising the surrounding environment’s experiences, tourism and recreation in a sustainable way. The Särkänniemi region as a hub for sustainable tourism offers an attractive tip for communication, engagement and dissemination of results. During the project, solutions for renewable energy, energy efficiency, circular economy, low-emission shipping, sustainable mobility and low-carbon restaurant services will be designed with companies and developer organisations, as well as testing with users and piloting selected services and concepts. On this basis, an action plan will be drawn up, including studies on the structural conditions of the region, criteria for the sustainable development of enterprises and activities located in the region, as well as action and communication plans. On the basis of the plan, a sustainable tourism ecosystem will be created for the region. As a result of the project, the Särkänniemi region will be transformed into a sustainable tourism hub, bringing together low-carbon tourism services. The project implements the wider objectives of the City of Tampere in connection with the Smart Tampere programme, the development of the tourism ecosystem and increasing the international attractiveness and visibility of the Tampere City Region.
