The aim of the project is to make Saimaa a third central and internationally renowned tourist area in Finland, alongside Helsinki and Lapland. The aim of the project is to improve the competitiveness of tourism and service companies located in the region of South Karelia by means of internationalisation and to increase tourism income. The project will support the international growth of tourism companies and help new companies start international business or start selling in a new destination country/region by expanding the existing market. The aim is to develop the region’s tourism business by investing in the development of the current and potential new tourism business, the productisation and marketing of ideas and products and tourism packages in selected international destination markets. Internationalisation requires productisation, marketing and sales and distribution channels. In order to achieve the objectives of the project, various measures relating to the internationalisation of companies will be carried out. In targeting the measures, it is important to monitor the global economic factors affecting tourism and to react proactively to possible changes. The project will contribute to the emergence of new, commercially attractive and attractive tourism products/services throughout the year, as well as to develop the skills of tourism companies and existing product offerings. Thanks to the project, the region will become more attractive, as well as international tourists’ knowledge of what our region offers. The number of tourists in the region, registered overnight stays and the number of air passengers arriving in the region will increase in the selected target groups, including an increase in tourism income. Instrumental results include common brochures and development of a website about the region. The project promotes co-operation at provincial, national and international level (regional organisations, private tourism companies, international sales channels). As a result of the project, the Saimaa region can be purchased more easily from the point of view of international tourists, and information about the area can be found more easily, enough and in sufficient variety of channels. As a result of the project, the Province of South Karelia is an internationally attractive tourist area offering high-quality, year-round tourism products serving selected target groups.
