Higher in higher education cooperation (KoKo)

The Oulu region’s business sector has faced strong structural changes and, in addition, high youth unemployment has emerged in the Oulu region on a national basis. Responding to these changes requires measures that promote the emergence of entrepreneurship and new business activities and the growth of SMEs, especially in international markets. In cooperation between the University of Oulu and Oulu University of Applied Sciences, the project will build a new way of thinking and working. The aim of the operation is to create new business ideas and new business, as well as to develop growth business. In this project, we offer the expertise reserves and networks of Oulu universities to support the international growth business. The main target groups of the project are people interested in entrepreneurship, as well as start-ups and SMEs. Indirectly, the project contributes to the development of entrepreneurship activities in higher education institutions. The project consists of three work packages. Work Package A (Building new business in higher education cooperation) develops the idea accelerator’s approach from “idea to product” to the development phase. The Business Kitchen platform is piloted as a sub-activity and aims to utilise the Business Kitchen community and network as a wide “resource reserve”. The result of these ideas is to create more quickly and more often business activities aimed at international level and thus new companies. The aim is to create an international cross border community alongside the local Business Kitchen community. Through this community, a systematic operating model and environment will be built to promote the growth and internationalisation of industries with international potential. The new technology-supported operating environment enables the international co-development of growth-oriented business areas through cooperation between universities and companies in different countries, regardless of time and place. The result is knowledge of conceptualisation possibilities and experience in spreading the concept to a new city and operating environment. As a result, we aim to support the creation of 10 new companies and to contribute to the creation of 20 new jobs. Dozens of SMEs will participate in the project and strengthen their international activities. In general terms, the project will create a new entrepreneurial culture for universities as well as for the region as a whole.
