BIOMAX is a cogeneration plant producing heat and electricity. Heat is diffused in the district heating network and used to generate electricity via a turbo-alternator. In the long term, Biomax will produce 220 GWh of energy per year and will supply 15 to 20,000 homes for district heating and 10,000 homes with electricity. This plant will replace a boiler room with heavy fuel oil. The plant will consume 85,000 tonnes of wood per year. All of this wood will come from the region with an average supply distance of 60 km around Grenoble, partly in sustainably managed forests (PEFC certifications, FSC).
