The strengthening of the Malo dike is part of a policy of the CUD to manage its coastline. In this context, the CUD is in the process of defining and implementing a Community strategy for the modernisation of the seaside perres of the coastal communes of Bray-Dunes in Grand Fort Philippe by carrying out diagnostics, restoring and strengthening the perres against marine submersions, monitoring beach profiles and re-sanding campaigns. These restoration operations reinforce the massive sanding work of the beach and the consolidation of the allies’ dam that protects the outlet canal and the hinterland from marine intrusions. They are included in the Aa Flood Prevention Action Programme, the partnership agreement of which was signed in 2016 with the Hauts de France Region, managing the European Funds under axis 4 PI 5a Risk Prevention and Management Adaptation. In the municipalities of Dunkirk and Leffrinckoucke, the seaside perré is both a walking spot and a work of art to protect against erosion and marine submersion during stormy periods or tides with high coefficients. The site concerned by the operation is Malo-les-Bains, between the outlet canal and the Palais des Congrès. Protection issues are important. The Malo Perré concerned protects a dense area with agglomeration equipment from the risk of marine submersion.
