In 2006, the Region retained the reconstruction of Victor Schoelcher High School at its current site. Indeed, the buildings in service were built between 1933 and 1937. This reconstruction was motivated by the state of the structure of the building, the evolution of educational arrangements and the requirement, in particular, of new safety and accessibility measures for PRMs which did not allow for rehabilitation under satisfactory conditions of safety, functionality, comfort, cost of work and maintenance costs. However, taking into account the undeniable interest of this modernist architectural ensemble has led to strengthening the proposal of the winning project of the competition, for the conservation and renovation of the buildings and staircases constituting the historic entrance. For the record, until June 2016, this school of general and technological education hosted a school community grouped in 18 buildings and composed of 1,426 pupils, 125 teachers and 75 staff. The capacity of the new high school will be about 1,400 students with a reinforcement of the post-bac. The operation includes the demolition, reconstruction and installation of new seismic equipment.
