METHYCENTRE

METHYCENTRE is the first demonstration project of Power to Gas in France coupled with a methanisation unit. Thus, this project allows: — Improving the carbon efficiency of biogas to methane in the methanisation process from 55 % to more than 95 %, through the eventual transformation of all CO2 of the biogas (biogas recovered from biomass decomposition consists of about 55-60 % biomethane and 40-45 % CO2) -Producing a 100 % renewable synthetic methane by recycling non-fossil CO2 (from agricultural methanisation) -Storage of surplus renewable electricity in green gas This project presents several major innovations: —The development of a 2nd Generation PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) stack, -Development of a methane, hydrogen and CO2 input unit, -Recycling unconverted gases into methane outlets, -The adaptation of the unit’s sub-processes (electrolysis, methanisation, auxiliaries) to respond more flexibly to the need for the grid and intermittent storage of renewable electricity. Located on the Céré-la-Ronde gas storage site, the project is anchored in a territory with a strong dynamic of sustainable development and participates in the deployment of a circular economy in the region Centre-Val de Loire, in synergy with other local entities and projects: — Collaboration with research partners (CEA le Ripault) or fabr...
