The application seeks to acquire the instrumentation minimally required for carrying out metabolomics in different research areas, and for addressing chemical identification problems. It should include an ultra high pressure HPLC system, a highly efficient and versatile ionization probe, and a mass analyzer able to fragment and separate ions in high resolution mode with high accuracy, sensitivity and lineal response. The same instrument or a second one, will allow to carry MSn experiments in order to facilitate molecular elucidation. The systems will include a powerful software for the generation, management and processing of metabolomics data and for assist in molecular identification. The application is supported by 28 consolidated research groups and will be part of a service coordinated with the research support services of the University of Zaragoza. It will be key to replace obsolete instrumentation and to help projects in different areas (food, agriculture, nutrition, materials, catalysis, environment) to give a qualitative step in their research, since they will have access to the discovery, identification and quantification of molecular markers through metabolomics strategies and will make it possible to identify and structurally elucidate, molecules present at low levels. The service will be organized and managed to provide maximum efficiency to the local scientific community.
