In the present project proposal, funding is demanded in order to endow the group Operaciones Básicas y Tecnología de Polímeros from Instituto de Tecnologías Química y Medioambiental (ITQUIMA) with the fundamental equipment to make an important advance to develop and analyze new smart thermal materials with fire-retardant applications._x000D_ The requested equipment will allow us for a complete characterization of advanced thermal materials with fire-retardant applications and consists of a calorimeter cone, a TG-IR-GC / MS, a thermal conductivity measurement by Heat Flow and a microcalorimeter. This equipment provides a large amount of information about the samples, since the calorimetric cone can determine: the rate of heat release, the time needed for ignition, the speed of mass loss, the speed of smoke emission and the heat of effective combustion or the rate of emission of toxic gases, making this equipment the most significant tool in the field of fire-resistance tests. In addition, the determination of the heat capacity of the material and its thermal resistance by means of the TG-IR-GC / MS equipment and the thermal conductivity of the material with the heat-flow analyzer will permit us to be at the forefront in the development of flame-retardant materials in the region. It will help this region to bring high-value technology to the national and world market.
